6/12/2023 0 Comments Neon gods katee robert seriesSociety darling Persephone Dimitriou plans to flee the ultra-modern city of Olympus and start over far from the backstabbing politics of the Thirteen Houses. But from the moment I crossed the River Styx and fell under his dark spell… he was, quite simply, mine. It makes me want to pursue this series and the author for my new research project once I get to that stage. Anyone who thinks they are included for pure erotica couldn’t be more wrong. I can’t get over the juxtaposition of harmful relationships with healthy ones, and am utterly transfixed with the idea that graphic sex scenes can be an exploration of intimacy and of the self. The overlay of Greek gods and goddesses in an urban or contemporary setting lends itself well to exploring deeper emotions as the reader already feels some connection to familiarity of the world. This was a wonderful audiobook! I absolutely loved the power dynamic and characterization of the main romantic couple as well as the author’s clever world building. Skeptics have long belittled the notion of a barely educated small-town boy who moves to London to work as an actor and is suddenly writing masterpieces of unrivaled beauty and sophistication. In fact, there's no hard evidence that Will Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon (1564-1616), revered as the greatest author in the English language, could even write a complete sentence. Not so much as a couplet written in Shakespeare's own hand has been proven to exist. Even if you're a regular visitor to London, it's probably never occurred to you to stop in to see William Shakespeare's original manuscripts at the British Museum or Library. 6/11/2023 0 Comments Author larry mcmurtryHe simultaneously worked as a bookseller and screenwriter, co-writing the Oscar-winning script for the movie “Brokeback Mountain.” McMurtry, who had in his later years split his time between his small Texas hometown of Archer City and Tucson, Arizona, wrote dozens of books, including novels, biographies and essay collections. The statement did not say where he died but noted that he’ll be buried “in his cherished home state of Texas.” McMurtry died Thursday night of heart failure, according to a family statement issued through a publicist on Friday. DALLAS (AP) - Larry McMurtry, the prolific and popular author who took readers back to the old American West in his Pulitzer Prize-winning “Lonesome Dove” and returned them to modern-day landscapes in works such as his emotional tale of a mother-daughter relationship in “Terms of Endearment,” has died. I was a detective on '77 Sunset Strip,' the missing Cartwright sibling they never talked about on 'Bonanza' and the 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.' before there was a 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.,' not to mention an active participant in the serialized stories of 'The Mickey Mouse Club.'" Marie began to write her first romance novel when she was 11 years old, although she claims that, at the time, she didn't even realize it was a romance! She scribbled off and on, while dreaming of a career as an actress. "Initially, I began writing myself into my favourite shows. Marie swears she was born writing, "which must have made the delivery especially hard for my mother." From an early age, Marie's parents would find her watching television or tucked away in some private place, writing at a furious pace. For an entire year, Marie and her family explored the eastern half of the country before finally settling in New York. Marie Rydzynski was born on March 28 in West Germany to Polish parents. By tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE - November 1, 2020 6/11/2023 0 Comments The Republic by PlatoOf course if a given state could be founded on a resolution and emulation of such precepts, it would be an ideal state Plato is generally acknowledged to be an idealistic philosopher. Thus it is that the conversation in the Republic proceeds from a question of meaning (what is Justice?), augmented by questions of fact (are there examples of justice in action or of just men?), to a question of policy (what laws may be effected to ensure the carriage of justice?). The major intent of the debate in the Republic is to determine an extended definition of what constitutes Justice in a given state, whether or not a concept of Justice may be determined by citizens in a given state at the time that Plato is writing, and how Justice may be accomplished in a given state (how laws might be enacted that would serve the citizens of a just state in courts of law). |
